Technology

The technologies that raise the fewest ethical problems are those that work on a human scale, brightening the lives of individual people. – freeman dyson

I need to keep technology here working on the human scale… that has been the success of the program to date.

Just got back from the spaceport america kickoff ceremonies. Speeches by Gov Richardson, Mayor of LC, Interim NMSU prez… good to see quite a few people there. NASA bouncy castle was ultra cool. Very disappointed how they were gouging the crowd for food.

Chair

I have been offered and accepted and begun. I am honored to be given the chance to make a contribution. Thanks to everyone for their encouragement and support. You know who you are. I’m just beginning to get a sense of the job.

Getting Ready

Transition time. Very difficult to leave but happy and excited about the opportunity.

… as we know it… NY Times: Op-Ed

Unfortunately this mass-production university model has led to separation where there ought to be collaboration and to ever-increasing specialization. In my own religion department, for example, we have 10 faculty members, working in eight subfields, with little overlap. And as departments fragment, research and publication become more and more about less and less.

Communication

Make communication the center of media studies, and move media studies to the core of communication.

Waiting…

I had a second interview for Dept. Chair last week. Very pleased with having made it to a finalist. I think it went well. Now the waiting.

2nd Interview!

Had a second interview with the president of the community college. I think it went well. I was more nervous than I anticipated… i think I am starting to feel that life-change world shift.
