Caught this op-ed and mostly agree.

I increasingly feel like I'm working at GM or Chrysler with a strong desire to find ourselves back in the good old days -- and a fierce resistance to even look at changing the ways we engage with students and the community.

Pretty disheartening sometimes.

This is great to hear! Don't know about the other candidates, but the perspective you share in your quote is just one reason you'd be a great choice. I'd love to see you selected.

Good luck!

Matt-
One more thing -- I just checked out your tech autobio movie. So cool. I want to play with this program some. Also, I love that you are dressed as a butcher. Bloody aprons always work to sell a bio :)
See ya in class-

Matt-
I don't know Rucker or Saucer Wisdom. Do bring it up in class - or send me a link. Sounds cool.
One of the things I note about iPods is how intentionally isolating they are. It seems odd that we are so invested in being social in online spaces (MySpace, Twitter, etc.) and so interested in being alone when physically surrounded by people (like on a college campus or on a walk). I'm not sure what that means, but it's interesting to me.

Matt-
This is a great topic. It's a bit broad - as I am sure you already realize - but I suspect it will become focused as you gather sources.

I can see you attacking this topic in a couple of ways:
1-the psychology of exergaming (why we do it? will we cheat? will it change how we play offline sports/activities?)
2-the reality for the body (repetitive injuries, the re-integration of the body with the machine, does this make us cyborgs (maybe read Haraway's cyborg manifesto - it's a tough read but I think you'd enjoy it)
3-design issues (how do we make them engaging?, will they stick around?)

It will be really interesting to see where this research takes you. It's a great topic to get started with.
